In 2001 I wrote an article for the American
Recorder magazine about why I was transcribing Renaissance
Music in unbarred parts. I think it's still a pretty good piece
of writing about why I do what's on this site. It uses Morley's
duet: Fyre
and Lightning to illustrate why it's easier to play
from the unbarred parts than from a barred score.
In the course of moving the article to this site from the old
one, I also fixed up the PDF
file, which had gotten corrupted in the course of writing the article.
